Why train your board?

Many Trustees start without a clear picture of what the role itself involves and induction is too often a folder of papers and a coffee with the Chair. Some go years without stepping back to look at the role at all.

The need for improved training is a frequent outcome of the Governance Review we undertake. And it matters more than ever. The CQC's well-led question asks directly about the quality of leadership and governance and scrutiny from other regulators and stakeholders has grown in recent years. Boards are increasingly expected to know what good looks like - and to demonstrate it.

Subjects we are asked to cover most often include:

  • The line between governance and management – who is responsible for what?
  • The interface between Trustees and Executives - how to balance constructive challenge and appropriate support.
  • How can Trustees work effectively as a team?
  • The particular challenges facing hospice Trustees.

Our sessions have an emphasis on engagement and interaction. This includes scenario based exercises such as ‘Whose Decision is it Anyway?’ and ‘Who does what around Strategy?’

We can deliver training in person or online and tailor the programme to specifically to your requirements. Please contact us to speak further.

Feedback from hospice Trustees

'Thoroughly appreciated this training - very valuable.  Think it should be mandatory for all new Trustees!’     Angela Brook-Aitkenhead
I really enjoyed the 2 days and learned a lot. I hope that more new trustees get to receive this quality introduction.   Clare Tibbitts
