About David Burland

Having worked in the voluntary sector for 35 years, I bring vast experience from my time as a CEO, a Chair, a Trustee and a Director of several charity-related enterprises. 

From 2012 to 2017, I was CEO of Shooting Star Children's Hospices, one of the largest children’s hospice services in the UK. During my time there, both our hospices were awarded ‘Outstanding’ CQC accreditation. We also significantly increased the range of services and numbers of children and families supported.

When I was at Help the Hospices – now Hospice UK – I achieved a six-fold increase in income in just seven years. I later became Deputy CEO with a remit to lead relationships with member hospices. 

Since becoming a consultant, I have worked on a wide range of projects with nearly forty charities – many of them several times. I have also set up new programmes, such as the Virtual Hospice CEO and Virtual Hospice Finance Director groups and the Hospice Legacy Circle. In addition, I established the quarterly review of hospice management accounts now run in with Hospice UK.
